NAC1O Grade 9: Expressions of Indigenous Cultures (First Nations, Metis & Inuit Art)
Welcome to the NAC1O Grade 9 Expressions of Indigenous Cultures. This course examines Indigenous cultures in Canada and around the world through an exploration of art forms: painting, sculpture, storytelling, dance, and music – created by Indigenous artists. Students will learn to identify First Nations, Métis and Inuit art forms and describe relationships between the art forms and traditions, philosophy, and culture. Students will also learn basic art theory and techniques that will provide the core knowledge required to continue in visual arts. Below are some of the assignments students will be exploring - please note that units and assignments are subject to change, and will not necessarily follow the order posted below.

How to Get Started: ART PORTFOLIO
TASK: For the duration of Quadmester 1, you will be presenting all completed work in a digital Art Portfolio using Google Slides. Please read through the art portfolio project requirements carefully in order to organize your format and assignments properly.
Your portfolio will be submitted in Hapara for assessment.

2. Principles of Composition: Review the Principles of Composition slideshow. In your sketchbook, create a simple Visual Note that explores each Principle (see example). To be assessed in class.
3. Sketchbook Activity: Demonstrate your understanding the Principles of Composition by completing the three slides (Movement, Proportion & Balance) provided on your Art Portfolio Template. Please complete the written component provided for each sketch.
